Transform your fabric +

paper off-cuts into custom

handmade paper

designed for packaging, stationery,

marketing materials, and creative reuse

from the Cave Paper studio in sunny Tucson, Arizona.

Material choices are not accidental. The fibers used to make an object reflect decisions about quality, sourcing, performance, and craft.

They often carry a connection to place, process, and the people who made them.

Rather than discarding production remnants, hand papermaking allows natural fiber textile off-cuts, paper scraps, and agricultural biproducts to be carried forward into a new form.

The resulting paper reflects the character of the original material. It can serve as a natural extension of the products it came from, carrying forward the same values, identity, and attention to craft.

We Work With: clean natural fiber materials including cotton, linen, denim, flax, hemp, paper scraps, cutting waste, manufacturing off-cuts, misprints, and more.

RAG·TAG PAPER began from a desire to apply our expertise in hand papermaking to our love for sustainable design.

As a production-scale studio, we are equipped to pulp, prototype, and produce custom paper projects efficiently while maintaining an exceptional standard of craftsmanship.

01 DISCOVERY

We start by learning about your materials, your work, and the story you'd like the finished pieces to tell. Together, we'll determine the best approach for your project.

This includes intended use, project scale, and how your paper will function in real applications.

02 TEST BATCH

We shred, pulp, and transform a small amount of your material into handmade paper samples.

Each Test Batch includes a standard Sample Kit: journal, greeting card, postcard with material story, business card, and hang tag. These show how the material works in real applications like packaging, communication, and product labeling.

Some projects may also include larger-format applications such as pulp-based artwork or custom interior pieces, developed within the same system.

03 PRODUCTION

Once your designs are finalized, we are ready to scale up. We pulp material in large batches and your paper is formed by hand to spec.

Depending on the project, additional finishing such as cutting, printing, foil stamping, and assembly can be included so the final pieces are ready for use.

This stage turns your material into finished, working products.

Whether you're exploring a one-time project or developing an ongoing use for recurring material waste, we can help transform what would otherwise be discarded into something useful, beautiful, and uniquely your own.
